Alexis Whitacre is a human geographer specializing in tourism to refugee camps in the Middle East. Her research focuses on the intersections of refugee and camp studies, media studies, and tourism studies, highlighting tourism as a new encounter in the refugee camp that negotiates the contours of traditional tourism, extends camp boundaries, and redefines ‘camp-ness’ itself. She taught as an Instructor of Record for Regions of the World and Human Geography in a Changing World, and assisted in teaching Environment and Society, International Global Development, and Human Rights and International Law.
